The Week That Was

Former Field Music member Pete Brewis has gone 'solo' with this oddly beautiful self-titled new album under the name 'The Week That Was.'

I hear elements and influences in this 8 song set from all over the musical map, but for some reason when I listen to it I can't help but to think that Brewis spent a LOT of time listening to Kate Bush while writing and recording the record. Here is what I think is my favorite track off of it...enjoy:

How do you say "DREAM GIRL" in goth?? I mean a 39yr old Insane Clown Posse fan?? My heart just skipped a beat...

(so...the song may not totally apply - Teenager? Huh? - but after reading this I just kept hearing the lyric 'wrap yourself in black, listen to the Cure' over and over again!)

Better Than Ezra - 'Teenager' MP3 2...can't help myself!

OK...just ONE more from the new Blitzen Trapper album. This tune is just one that i HAVE to sounds like it was ripped right out of 1967 - like it was some amazing Byrds song that was never absolute must listen!

Blitzen Trapper - 'Furr' MP3

It was REALLY hard to pick a song to post from this incredible new Blitzen Trapper album, 'Furr.' There are so many DIFFERENT kind of sounding songs on this record...from beautiful piano ballads to funk infused rockers...and everything in between. You really need to hear this, such a wonderful listen...something for literally every mood.

I put the disc on random, and this one came here you go...enjoy:

Ode To J. Smith

Any band capable of writing a song as good and gloomy as 'Why Does It Always Rain On Me?' will always have a special place in my Travis has said place.

They boys from Scotland are back with a brand new studio album entitled 'Ode To J. Smith' comes out on September 30th. They seem to be rocking JUST a bit harder these days, but they are as introspective as is a track for you to listen to:

I caught you with my husband, but didn't catch ur name - w4w - 28 (Divorce-ville)

So I come home early from work to surprise my husband......and we both know I got the surprise. I love walking into my house, dropping my keys on the counter, checking the mail ....but wait.... is that music from the bedroom. WTF is he doing........I shouldn't have asked.

So I go upstairs.......not sneaking, mind you because it's my house and I honestly had no idea that I was going to find my husband on OUR bed with his goods in your nasty mouth.

So here is my missed connection for you:

I'm sorry my fist wouldn't stop connecting with your face for like 5 minutes. I'm sorry I didn't catch your name while I was dragging you by your nasty, bad dye-job hair, down my stairs and out my front door. Sorry my foot didn't meet your ass less than 10 times. Sorry you had to sit on the front lawn naked while my loving husband found your nasty clothes and car keys.

Sorry I was ready for round two on the front lawn and wanted to talk to you more, but I was too busy kicking the crap outta my husband who was soooo concerned with getting your clothes and keys to you.

Sorry about the flat head screwdriver in your car tire, and I'm gonna need that back- it was a Craftsman and it goes with my set! Sorry about the I'm going to hunt you down goodbye rant and rave while my husband was holding me back.

I'm sorry we didn't make a better connection. I really think there is something there. I got this feeling in my stomach that I haven't had for such a long time. WTF seriously.......Respond to this add, after your face is healed, I'm sure he would love to see you again- I'll give you his contact info- his hotel room, where he'll be living from now on. You won't have to worry about any more missed connections from me.

Just so I know it's really you, tell me what color sheets were ON my bed......oh wait you probably didn't notice since your face was all up in his goods. Ok ummm why dont you tell me what I was wearing while I was kicking your butt. Oh, you didn't catch that either, you had your eyes closed when I was punching your face. Ok so tell me my dirtball husband's name, that is if you know it or was this a NSA, FWB, 1NS from the casual encounters section?

Listen Nasty, I know you are probably a nice person, you just made a bad choice. I obviously did marrying dirtball. So 'til we meet again, I will be thinking of our time together and longing to kick your ass somemore!

Hugs and Kisses,
The Wife Who Kicked Your Butt

P.S. You left your nasty grannie panties in my house! Just so you know for the next time you meet-he likes thongs!

For all you CL's who are wondering why my poor husband cheated, wasn't because he didn't get it all the time.....we're talking 10+ times a week. Wasn't cause I'm not good in bed......I am. Wasn't cause I'm fat, let myself go, or don't give him what he needs.......I'm fit(5'9" 125), hot(blonde/blue), employed(100k a year), own MY OWN home(350k), and OWN MY own car(BMW). Who knows why.......I sure don't and he can't seem to come up with a reason other than boo-hoo I'm sorry.

Any single guys out there!? LOL

I am in NO WAY condoning cheating...but man, c''s called a hotel!

My ode to mass transit

So...on Monday of this week I risked life and limb and hopped on the city bus to trek downtown for the Swell Season show(which was again, absolutely incredible). Anyone knows that such a trip can not be made without a weapon of mass distraction - an mp3 player. I mean one must supply one's own soundtrack to the festival of sights that ONLY a long city bus voyage can bring to light - streetwalkers, drug addicts, shady characters in all shapes and sizes - and that's just ON the bus, we don't have the time to get into what was happening on the actual streets.

Anway, here are a handful of songs that popped up via the shuffle mode during my ride that I hadn't heard forever and felt obligated to post...enjoy:

Rilo Kiley - 'The Frug' MP3

Buffalo Tom - 'My Responsibility' MP3

Creeper Lagoon - 'Dear Deadly' MP3

The Swell Season

Dozens of ounces of beer consumed....

Glen starting the show off busker microphone needed for an amazing version of 'Say It To Me Now'

3 new songs....

Van Morrison covers....(Astral Weeks)

Black Sabbath covers....(War Pigs)

A stirring version of Fitzcarldo to close the show...or so I thought....only to be topped by an EVEN more stirring version of 'People Get Ready' prefaced with an impassioned Glen Hansard plea to do the right thing, and vote for Obama...

Monday nights don't get much better....

The Swell Season - 'Lies' MP3

Thank you Carly...for forever embedding this song into my head. I think the beauty of the lyrics to this song were sort of hidden from me due to the fact that it was the theme song for 'The O.C.'...but it's amazing once you take Phantom Planet and that show out of the mix, and add the harmonies of Mates Of State, you are left with a gorgeous song.

Mates Of State - 'California' MP3

They're From Barcelona

Another World

I am guessing that there isn't much of a gray area when it comes to the music of Antony & The Johnsons. Antony's quivering falsetto is the kind of voice you either love...or hate. Me? I fall squarely on the love side. There is like a hypnotic quality to his voice that just mesmerizes me...seriously, when life gets to eventful sometimes, I will put on their 'I Am A Bird Now' record and zone out for an hour or good for the soul.

The band has FINALLY finished up recording some new music in the form of this upcoming EP entitled 'Another World' is the title track for ya:

All you people coming down on the females who prefer to have an abortion because it is killing a child.

Why don't some of you raise some hell about those women who left their child in a hot car to smother to death. I mean, hell, what's the difference, well maybe there is:

Abortion kills an unborn fetus that is never outside the body, maybe not even formed, that the mother hasn't and never will hold in her arms.

Hot cars kills a child, moving, breathing, cooing and gooing, that the mother has cared,?, for over a period of time and has held in her arms but for some reason forgets that she has a baby because she thinks that her job requires more attention than her child.

Why haven't you pro-lifers been squealing about these women REALLY GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER, REALLY!

So, I have a strange fetish. I like to wear adult diapers. No, I'm not a pedophile! I just like to wear adult diapers and like to meet other adults that are into the same.

Anyway, I just spent the last several days exchanging emails and chatting with someone who I thought was into the same fetish as myself. As it turns out, it was a great big waste of time. I was chatting today and we decided to me. When our schedules didn't line up I didn't hear back from her. Then I found out that I would be able to meet her at a time she was free. I sent her an email to express my excitement only to have it returned to me. The cause was that the account no longer existed. Same goes for the IM account.

When someone is just looking to have a good time with other like minded people, why would it be fun to spend days messing with them? Anyway, if any of you are looking for someone here on CL to share some time with, I hope you have better luck than I did.

Would you be willing to show yours to a very nice guy. Be safe, Meet for coffee first. Then a private showing. Your rules respected. I have not had anyone show off their inked skin for me in too long. If you are that lady with many Tattoos /or are another lady almost totally covered with inked skin that you would like to show off, please reply. Thanks!

Sometimes you can feel yourself on the edge of greatness. You grasp and grasp, and hope and pray that it doesn't slip away. This is one of those things. This post. With it starts my relationship with you: the person who reads this, hoping it's about her. It is. I'm hoping you'll respond, so that this doesn't slip away. If you're like me, then you might not even read it to begin with. Maybe the title didn't "grab" you enough, maybe it looked too long to muddle through when you clicked it, or maybe you think I'm a raving lunatic, a loser, or just not your type. But if you DO read it, and it catches you in the right mood, and if you're as hopelessly romantic as I am, then you might write back. I hope I'm in the right mood when I read it.
I am a lonely wretch.

Know what I did tonight? I wrote on a friend's FaceBook wall. I haven't talked to her in over a year, probably. She's married, but I told her that I was thinking about her the other day, and that she's beautiful. It's funny how I can scoff at FaceBook, but doing something so simple can make me so happy. I want someone of my own to tell such things to. Not someone else's wife.

Last week, as I was talking to someone online (probably someone I met on a dating site) they told me that it was refreshing to hear from a guy what I'd just said: I'm tired of being alone.

You can tell me that 1 and 1 make two, and that you have to live for yourself before you'll find anyone else, but the fact of the matter is that I believe that, instead of 1 and 1 making two, I'm looking for my other half. I wish I knew where you were. I know you're out there, dammit. Somewhere. Please write me back. I'm not suicidal, so don't get all worried, but sometimes it feels like I'd be much better off living for someone else than for myself. It's a little sad, but there ARE things I'll do for someone I care about, but not do for myself. I just wish I had the person to do them for. That could be you.
If anyone actually writes me back, and responds to this, it might encourage me enough to write again. I'm not particularly artistic, actually, but I think that posting this is "me needing an outlet." I mean, I can appreciate art, but I'm not much for making it. this is what I can manage. To you, I hope, it's art.

"I turn to the "Missed Connections" forum on CraigsList to look for hope" ... that MAY in fact be the saddest thing I have ever, EVER read. I think of all the Missed Connections sub-genres on Craigslist, the 'late night rambling/cry for helps' are my favorite to read...and the most heart breaking.

House With No Home

Portland folk outfit Horse Feathers(with a name like that, could they really play any other genre?) have a new album coming out soon, and it's called 'House With No Home.'

Just wanted to pass along a track from the record...

Horse Feathers - 'Working Poor' MP3

Vice Rag

Songs like this are the reason I started this little blog in the first place. Every once in awhile a 'certain song' will pop up via the shuffle mode of my i pod and I just feel compelled to share it.

That just happened. The song was 'Vice Rag' by AA Bondy, and incredibly talented and FAR TOO UNDER THE RADAR singer/songwriter AA Bondy. His album 'American Hearts' was one of my favorite from 2007...beautiful stuff.

Seeking Adult Drunk Clown for 30th Birthday party

Date: 2008-08-26, 3:22PM EDT

We need an Adult Drunk Clown who is good at getting drunk and stupid. No need to do any clown tricks, just hang out and drink a shit load. We will be hopping around to different bars and want a clown to tag a long and drink heavely. He doesn't even need to socialize with anyone, just drink.

the birthday is on Friday, Sept. 5th in Bucktown. Oh, did I mention that the clown needs to get shitfaced. Don't worry, we will purchase all the drinks.

What do you think the # will be for the over/under number of fights the 'adult drunk clown' will get into over the course of this night of bar hopping? I will start the wagering at 7...

The Kinks - 'Death Of A Clown' MP3

Soft Airplane

Canadian singer/songwriter Chad VanGaalen(with his easy falsetto voice) has always reminded me of a much younger, less political version of Neil Young. That isn't so much the case on this record, 'Soft Airplane' but I am loving it nonetheless.

Here is a tune from the new record...enjoy.

Hey what's up pussycats I'm new to this computer thing, but I'm just here for the most awesome, fun, rockin, kickass, kinky, tight-ass-rad-sexy chick in the city- bonus points if you are heavy metal. Basically I just need a counterpart to my sleek, excellent self. Personality is my main focus, but if I look better in spandex than you (which is very possible) or if my hair looks better than yours, then I'm going to have to pass. You have to be at least hovering around my level of sexiness- it's only fair. To the extent of my knowledge, I'm free of permanent diseases and quit the hard drugs a few days ago. I like to party, rock, fuck, and have a great time, but believe it or not I'm actually smarter than the Jetta-driving, striped-shirt collar-popping, snobby, condescending, valet-demanding, arena district frequenting young professional (with heads up their asses) douchebags you'll see ravaging this city like a plague. My main goals here are to just spread the germs of Heavy Metal and rock n roll while making your life as interesting, dangerous, and entertaining as possible, but you know maybe, if you really kick alot of ass, I might not stray too much and I'll entertain and satisfy you when it's convenient. I'm also extremely sensitive and I like to listen when you're saying what I want to hear. I use commas excessively and grammatically incorrectly, but I don't really care dude they're fun. Shoot me up- I mean shoot me back something exciting loves!

xoxoxoxo muah- more tongue next time please :P

Sleater-Kinney - 'You're No Rock N Roll Fun'

Their own record label, Merge, once described Lambchop as "Nashville's most f*cked-up country band"...a glowing assessment in my humble opinion!

The band is back with a brand new studio album entitled 'OH(Ohio)'...and while it is taking a while for me to fully digest it, as of right this second I think I am going to really like it. One thing is for sure, I love this track off of it...hope you do to.

Lambchop - 'Slipped Dissolved And Loosed' MP3

The Brighton electronic trio Fujiya & Miyagi are back with a brand new album, 'Lightbulbs'. More of the same clever lyrics sung over infectious rhythm and catchy stuff.

Here is the opening track off of the new record, and their video for their 2006 breakthrough 'Ankle Injuries.'
