There seems to be a theme of impending, inevitable middle-agedness throughout my blog today. So I thought I would finish it off with one more beautiful song about getting older and all that comes with it...

I don't want a wife or a girlfriend so much as I want a 'mate of state.' Can't I just find that one, perfect, beautiful girl whose voice is the pitch perfect accompaniment to mine? Is that asking too much of the universe?
Actually...scratch that. I have heard myself sing, and if any girl out there was my perfect harmonized match, I think I would be worried...and together our voices would wreak havoc...bad things would happen. My vocal soul mate will just have to remain as one of my many unfulfilled rock n roll fantasies.
Anyway, here is the song that started this entire inner dialouge in my head. It's really one of my favorite 'growing old songs' ever.

Remember these guys? The California Raisins. There are 4 of them as pictured. 5.00 for all. Please email if you have any questions. Thanks ******
"Please email if you have any questions." OK...I have a question. Are you seriously selling statues of the California raisins?? And in reference to your ad's title, NO...these are not cool...they weren't cool in 1985 when they were at least topical. And it irks me that your vote counts just as much as mine in every single election. That is all.
Wow...those raisins really got my ire up!! I guess it's been a long week here :-)

Thank you Carly...for forever embedding this song into my head. I think the beauty of the lyrics to this song were sort of hidden from me due to the fact that it was the theme song for 'The O.C.'...but it's amazing once you take Phantom Planet and that show out of the mix, and add the harmonies of Mates Of State, you are left with a gorgeous song.

We all agree, incest is WRONG...but never before has it sounded so right!
When Margo and Richie Tennenbaum are reunited at the bus depot in Wes Anderson's new classic 'The Royal Tennenbaums', Nico's timeless 'These Days' helps me to forget just how creepy that scene should be...

I love the do it yourself aesthetic of Mates Of State.
Give this happy couple an organ and a drum kit and get out of the way...purely pleasurable lo-fi pop will surely ensue.
I believe they have a new record coming out next week(don't quote me on that)...so I spent a thought I would share one of my favorite tunes...off of 2003's 'Team Boo'
