Tributery

Just wanted to pass along a couple of gems from some tribute albums that I finally got around to picking up.

The first one is a beautiful Peter Broderick version of a Scott Walker tune that can be found on the Walker Tribute titled 'Scott Walker:30 Century Man.' The second track is a gorgeous Mark Kozelek take on a Low song, available on the Low tribute 'We Could Live In Hope - A Tribute To Low.'

Enoy.

Mark Kozelek's 'Finally' LP

Former Red House Painter and current Sun Kil Moon frontman Mark Kozelek has just released an LP of compilation tracks and covers called the 'Finally' LP. And it is beautiful, of course. A really cool variety of coversm, including tracks from Husker Du and Low.

Here is one of the standouts from the album, it's a ultra mellow take on an AC/DC tune. Enjoy.

7 Songs Belfast

There is a new EP available from the perpetually heavy-hearted Mark Kozelek entitled '7 Songs Belfast'...It is available exclusively through his website I believe.

Here is a tune off from the EP that is the perfect sort of melancholy from the Sun Kil Moon/Red House Painter mastermind.

New Sun Kil Moon - 'April'

Gut-wrenching pain has never sounded so good. I almost feel guilty liking Mark Kozelek's music so much...I mean I can't even fathom some of the pain he has endured to write songs like he does. But I digress...and I am happy to share a couple of new tracks from the forthcoming Sun Kil Moon album 'April'...ah that voice...it's just like hearing from a great friend who you've lost touch with...once you hit PLAY it's like he never left.

Retribution Gospel Choir

What happens when the musical minds of Low's Alan Sparhawk and Mark Kozelek come together? This does. And it's a beautiful thing.

This new Sparhawk project releases their debut disc on March 18, and it is produced by Red House Painter and Sun Kil Moon genius Mark Kozelek. Sonically speaking the band is MUCH louder, much fuzzier sounding than anything Low has ever recorded...with a sound bordering on 'stoner rock' it is a departure that works. I have been immersing myself in it all day, and loving life.

Voices that break your heart...Pt 2

Mark Kozelek is the other voice that never fails to crush my soul! In both the Red House Painters and his current project, Sun Kil Moon, he has been responsible for MULTIPLE moments of unforeseen emotional response...all due to a song.

I submit 'Carry Me Ohio' off of the Sun Kil Moon record 'Ghosts Of The Great Highway' as my sole exhibit...gets to me every time...maybe because I am an Ohio ex-pat, but still...a gorgeous tune!

Voices that break your heart...Pt 1

There are a handful of artists who do it to me every time. Every time I hear a song of theirs it seems to shake me to my core...Mark Kozelek and Jason Molina come to mind.

Jason Molina and whatever band he is fronting...be it Songs:Ohia or Magnolia Eletcric Co just has that sort of vulnerable voice that hits me like a ton of bricks. Here is a song called "Leave The City" off of 'Trials And Errors'...it's a heartbreaker.

Anyone have this affect on you? Comments are always welcome...
