Top Ten Albums Of 2008 - From the home office in Columbus,OH

My obsessive-compulsive musical personality has gotten the better of me...again, and I have decided to post the obligatory list of my favorite 10 records of the year past.

I usually agonize over these things for way too long, so this year I am not going to think too deeply on it, and just pick the 10 albums that I couldn't stop playing in 2008.

Blair's Top 10 Of 2008(click the titles, hear a song)

10. Kathleen Edwards - 'Asking For Flowers'

9. Girl Talk - 'Feed The Animals'

8. The Kills - 'Midnight Boom'

7. Why? - 'Alopecia'

6. My Morning Jacket - 'Evil Urges'

5. Two Cow Garage - 'Speaking In Cursive'

4. Okkervil River - 'The Stand-Ins'

3. Bottle Up & Go - 'These Bones'

2. Frightened Rabbit - 'The Midnight Organ Fight'

1. The Hold Steady - 'Stay Positive'

Two degrees of musical seperation....

"She got screwed up by religion. She got screwed by soccer players. She got high for the first time in the camps down by the banks of the Mississippi river. Lord to be seventeen forever. She got confused about the truth. She came to in a confession. She got high for the last time in the camps down by the banks of the river. Lord to be 33 forever. She got screwed up by her vision. it was scary when she saw him. She didn't tell a single person about the camps on the banks of the Mississippi river. Lord to be seventeen forever. She got strung out the scene. She got scared when it got druggy. The way the whispers bit like fangs in the last hour of the parties. Lord to be 33 forever."

The Hold Steady - 'Stevie Nix' MP3

Stevie Nicks - 'The Edge Of Seventeen' MP3

"Raise a toast to St. Joe Strummer I think he might’ve been our only decent teacher "

This new Hold Steady record is already my summer soundtrack. I have played the thing into the ground and still love every single note. Just wanted to take a second and share the first track off of 'Stay Positive' and a track from the band Craig Finn name checks in the song, The Clash.

I'm perplexed, don't get it, can't understand these problem! YOU (women) that are honestly available and searching won't get off your duff ! What is in your britches, concrete, bricks, iron or worse..... MALLORY ? (heaviest known metal) You all talk playin Baseball, however you become afraid when a real opponent steps forward to the plate knowing the game and wanting to win. "OH, I'm scared.... he's a for real kind of guy, he has expectations!" Is that a bad thing, don't you? I'm beginning to think you women can only judge your next man by first screwing him to death while saying "NSA" relationship. (No Strings Attached) Where are your brains, up you puss? Why be scared? Just because the last prick screwed you over good doesn't mean I'm going too, well maybe your puss eventually but not you! Yes, my future hopes are real! Why does that scare you? What else should they be?? I also want to know if being with you is right for the rest of my life, but not using my bat needlessly as the instrument of determination!!! One lovely woman is all I want / need!! You just can't sit on the bench talking Baseball, that is not how you win! Why not have some honest fun and be a serious participant? If you strike out... so what, did you give it your best effort?! Can a person really succeed if they don't put all their effort into what they are trying to accomplish? NO, I don't think so.... the outcome will show that exact effort given!

I am playing to win. I hope to find an attractive woman, at least somewhat slendar and healthy (fit), as I am too.

I'm just making a request to love again before I start pushing daisy's up.... that's all!

Please forgive me, I have good intentions toward all.

What an IDIOT! Don't people read these out loud before submitting them? And I can't believe he was able to stretch the baseball metaphor out in such a long, dreadful way.... T

The Hold Steady - 'Take Me Out To The Ballgame' MP3

Sequestered In Memphis

This is the first single off of the forthcoming Hold Steady LP, 'Stay Positive'...featuring Ben Nichols from Lucero on backing vocals.

Your Birthday 3/16, - 41

We always had so much fun together and thought I love would be 4ever, although you had it in your head what if with her, now are you wondering what if without me being in your life, since you are divorced. You are still in my head, obviously you are suppose to be that is why you are in there. Our songs: Whitney Houston I will always love you, Elton John something about the way you looked tonight, Atlantic Star Secret Lovers. I sure do miss you.....I hope life is treating you very well these days. Have you been back to Myrtle Beach looking at the moon and think of me like you did before, those days were some of the happiest days of my life spending them with you. I still have everything you ever gave me. I will be keeping them to the day I die. What about the log cabin, new built house, Jack's steakhouse, just to name a few, yes, I carry the list everyday in my purse. As I said years ago, you will always be in my heart.

'Certain Songs' really do get scratched into our souls...

The Hold Steady - 'Certain Songs'

What Easter really sounds like

Happy Easter everyone...now I will sit here and wait patiently for the lightning bolt to obliterate me for posting this song...

The Hold Steady - 'How A Resurrection Really Feels'

Everyone's a critic, and most people are DJ's

My love for the words of Craig Finn and the music of the Hold Steady knows no limits. I think a lot of it has to do with my Midwestern roots. So much of what they sing about revolves around growing up, living, and just trying to figure life out in middle America.

Finn has the most amazing way of naming names and naming places that gives his songs instant credibility. He is a fantastic story teller. There music alwyas sounds to me like a great mesh of Bruce Springsteen and Social Distortion...and it always has so much heart. Can't wait for another Hold Steady record.

Certain songs... they get so scratched into our souls

I love musical name-checking. You know, when a band name or song title are dropped into a lyric. Snow Patrol's 'Chicago' springs to mind. But this song, 'certain songs'...is the
name dropping grand champion! A love song to songs.
