SOUL ON FIRE

The rays of the sun shine bright through the beautiful arrangement of quilted clouds in the soft blue sky.
I look and try to admire what is around me.
As beautiful as it is, darkness fills my veins.
Darkness you have bestowed in me.
Once able to fully enjoy the powers of this world we live in,
I am now sheltered from it's beauty by the black smoggy pain you secreted within my soul.
What seemed so pure was a vast solitude of mockery on my love.
Giving love a bad name you've torn my hope into failed attempts to please you.
Pride in smashing one's beauty for life is not something to hold so dear.
Gifts given to you from the chambers of my heart were taken with greed.
With courage and perseverance, I will find my way out of the smog and find light once again.

Oh yes, one of my favorite sub-genres of CL missed connections! The angst-fueled bad poetry posts...where being overly dramatic is the ONLY way to be:

"I am now sheltered from it's beauty by the black smoggy pain you secreted within my soul"

Also, NEVER a good idea to borrow a Bon Jovi lyric whilst composing a poem...ever.

RIP Jay Bennett

This Memorial Day just got a little bit sadder and more reflective for me. Former Wilco member, and amazing musician in his own right, Jay Bennett passed away in his sleep last night at the heartbreakingly young age of 45. It's weird, I was just yesterday formulating in my had a verbose post about how much Wilco and their music has meant to me over these past 15 years. Jay was a HUGE part of that from 1994-2001. Music must be an amazing thing to make you miss someone that have never even met so much.

Check out his myspace page if you have a second...as happens in this information age of ours, the comments section has sort of become a living, breathing memorial to the man and all of the lives he has touched. http://www.myspace.com/jaybennett

Thanks for the music Jay...you are missed.

I dub thee 'King Of Wishful Thinking.' Imagining that his messed up order at White Castle was actually part of an elaborate courtship ritual...stay positive, man, stay positive.

This isn't more than a fatkid feeling sorry for himself! I found this fantastic woman and had the most amazing time with her then this week we are taking a break, I cant help but to wonder what she is doing and where she is? I will just say I am hurting tonight and only want to be with her. I drove around all night smoking feeling sorry for myself when I should just keep it to myself and let her alone to do what she needs.

I have seen enough episodes of 'Cold Case Files' and 'Law And Order' to know that going to meet a complete stranger at 3 in the morning for a spur of the moment road trip to Chicago is not going to end well. We can only hope that the women of Columbus weren't rendered sensless by these HOT self portraits he included in his post.

Today's missed connection is short, sweet, and contains some AWFUL poetry...so I had to post it for the world to see.

I cant help it. I am drawn to you like a mindless moth to a billiant light in the darkest night. Sheer magnetism. Super polarity pull even.
DJ
P.S. I would have shoveled you out.

Wilco's rarity 'No Poetry' and Gary Jules song of the same title both came to mind as soon as I read the line "I am drawn to you like a mindless moth to a billiant light in the darkest night"...sigh. I think we all wish he would have left the poetry out and stayed to the facts, we were not so lucky.

We were so much older then...we're younger than that now

Congratulations to Wilco for their musical guest slot on SNL this weekend. I can still remember being somewhat curious about Wilco when I bought AM in 1994. I had just recently gotten into Uncle Tupelo, and wanted to hear exactly what Jeff Tweedy was going to do next. All's he did was do everything the right way. The way it should be done. Building a fan base from non stop touring and by releasing 15yrs worth of great records and becoming one of the best, if not biggest, bands in America. By evolving and experimenting, but never selling out Wilco have always taken the high road, even through some of the darker times the band has endured. It has been a great ride, and I can't wait for 15 more years...

Happy (musical) Thanksgiving!!!

I am not really as jaded as I come across....I just post that way

'No Depression'....none at all

I just want to take a brief moment and thank Uncle Tupelo for breaking up almost 15yrs ago. It's not that I wasn't a fan of the seminal alt-country band, in fact it is the exact opposite. I still listen to Anodyne at least a couple of times a month. And Uncle Tupelo almost single handily started the
entire resurgence of the 'no depression' sound...which had laid dormant for the most part since The Byrds and Gram Parsons ruled the airwaves in the late 60's, early 70's. As I peruse my music collection the influential stamp of Uncle Tupelo is all over it.

But since Uncle Tupelo split I have gotten 2 Son Volt records that I really like from Jay Farrar and his new outfit, and Wilco and Jeff Tweedy have been one of my favorite 2 or 3 bands since AM came out in 94(i think it was 94...they years are starting to blur together in my mind.)

So thanks for dividing and conquering fellas...enjoy the song.
