A Match Made In My Musical Heaven

Sitting here, watching the clock, waiting for 5 o'clock to come...but at this very second, I am totally distracted by the audio bliss trickling into my ears in the from of the new record from Jason Molina(Magnolia Electric Co., Songs: Ohia) and Will Johnson(Centro-matic).

I love both of these bands, so I was counting on loving this album, but I am happy to report it is totally exceeding my expectations! It's the most beautiful sort of melancholy. Just gorgeous stuff..there is a sample for you below. The 'Molina And Johnson' record is available everywhere on November 3.

New Magnolia Electric Co.

New Jason Molina music will always bring me out of a mini-posting hiatus!

Molina and Magnolia Electric Company are back with 'Josephine', their latest record - it drops on July 21st. Personally, I could listen to Jason sing the phone book and be enthralled...but here is a sneak peak of the new record...which promises to be much more interesting.

* 'Hope Dies Last' MP3

Sojourner

It has also been far too long since my last Jason Molina related post. I was relaxing on the ride home this evening and this tune popped up via the shuffle on my mp3 player and just sighed a sigh of absolute contenment. Work week over, weekend ahead, Magnolia Electric Co. in my ear...bliss.

* 'Kanawha' MP3

A Soundtrack To Falling Snow

Ah...the snow is falling here. The pretty kind too. Big, round, slow falling flakes. I am going to get home from work and pick out a book, find a blanket, and become one with the couch. Here is a snow inspired mini-playlist for you...hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday!

* Songs: Ohia - 'Just Be Simple' MP3

* The Be Good Tanyas - 'Broken Telephone' MP3

* Alina Simone - 'Black Water' MP3

Being Thankful For Jason Molina...in all his forms

I have NO Thanksgiving preparations to make. Which is awesome. I just show up, eat, talk, then sleep. So tonight I am just going to catch up with some old friends who are in town for the holidays and right now I am just relaxing and listening to music. While I was 'Hold On Magnolia' came on and I realized how much I love Jason Molina, in all his forms(Songs:Ohia, Magnolia Electric Co), and since it is Thanksgiving Eve, I thought I would give thanks in blog from. So thanks Mr. Molina, your songs, 'Hold On Magnolia' and 'Leave This City' especially have been therapy to me on more than one occasion.

That thing I do

Just thinking out loud here. I have this thing that I do. It concerns correspondence. Be it correspondence with friends, family, girlfriends, potential girlfriends...anyone. I have this horrible habit of ALWAYS sending ONE too many emails or text messages. You know when you have like a brief email or text exchange with someone, and the last post seems to conclude the conversation? I compulsively send one last email or text. And it usually makes no sense, like I was just trying in vain to keep the conversation alive. Why? Is it some juvenile thing about having the last word? I have no idea...but I do it constantly. Note to self: fix this.

As I was typing this the words and music of Jason Molina were filling my room...feels like a good time to post a couple of my favorites.

Voices that break your heart...Pt 1

There are a handful of artists who do it to me every time. Every time I hear a song of theirs it seems to shake me to my core...Mark Kozelek and Jason Molina come to mind.

Jason Molina and whatever band he is fronting...be it Songs:Ohia or Magnolia Eletcric Co just has that sort of vulnerable voice that hits me like a ton of bricks. Here is a song called "Leave The City" off of 'Trials And Errors'...it's a heartbreaker.

Anyone have this affect on you? Comments are always welcome...
