Liam, son of Neil

Not even back a month from Coachella, and already I am itching for another musical themed road trip. Been plotting with a friend for the last couple of days about a pilgrimage down to Nashville in June to see Elvis Costello and Eddie Vedder on consecutive nights at the Ryman Auditorium. There is so much musical goodness in that sentence I can barely contain myself...but I digress. So while gleefully scouring the web for details about these shows I saw that Liam Finn(son of Crowded House founder Neil Finn) was opening up for Eddie Vedder on this current tour. It had been a while since I had listened the Liam records that I have, so I dusted off his latest 'Ill Be Lightning' and played it for the rest of the night.

I had forgotten how great it was. So young, so talented. And on this song especially, he reminds me so much of Elliot Smith. Just a beautiful track...enjoy.

Eddie Vedder and Neil Young - 'Long Road'

What the last 8 years have sounded like

Eddie Vedder executive produced this soundtrack to the Iraq war documentary 'Body Of War'...although the album and its 30 songs serve equally well as a soundtrack for the last 8, long years.

This album needs to be put in some sort of time capsule and set aside for us when it is time to explain to our grandkids HOW this current administration could have POSSIBLY been elected...twice!

Here are three beautiful examples of the kind of genre hopping protest music that make up the compilation:

Bright Eyes - 'When The President Talks To God' MP3

John Lennon - 'Gimme Some Truth' MP3

Public Enemy - 'Son Of Bush' MP3

Kings of Rock

Kings Of Leon never thoroughly ROCK whatever venue I saw them in last year. I caught them at two of the big summer fests(Lolla and Coachella) and two club gigs, and they were four for four...just amazing each time out...especially in the smaller venues of course.

Just sitting here listening to their debut disc, and basking in the rock, wishing they were playing in my living room...Itunes will have to do for now. Here is a song they played at Lolla with guest vocals by Eddie Vedder...and the second tune is my favorite off that first record.

Speaking as a child of the 70's...

This is one of my favorite Eddie Vedder songs of all time. It is actually on former Minutemen and Stooges bassist Mike Watt's solo record 'Ball Hog Or Tug Boat.'
