Back in the early 80's I caught the TARC bus to and from high school. At the Bashford Manor Mall stop, I remember seeing a blind girl, late teen early 20's, that always wore tons of Yes (the band)shirts, hats, buttons and patches all over her coat and purse. Anyone know what became of this girl and if she is still a big fan of the band Yes?

The 30 + year missed connections postings always leave me feeling equal parts amazed and sad. I mean, do you think this girl had ANY idea she was making that kind of impression on a secret admirer?

If you have stumbled across this blog before, you probably know that I am a big fan of Thao And The Get Down Stay Down. Thao Nguyen writes such quirky cool, incredibly catchy songs that always make for fun records. Her latest, 'Know Better Learn Faster' is fantastic. I have listened to noting else today, and at this point, I think I may just make it officially Get Down Stay Down Sunday.
The record comes out October 13th.

I was scanning the upcoming releases today to see what I have to look forward to as the warm days start to slowly die off, and one album more than any other has me really excited. Thao w/ The Get Down Stay Down's '

I love Thao Nguyen and her way with words...here is a tune off her 2005 'Like The Linen' LP.

You know an album REALLY has you in it's clutches when you find yourself singing lyrics from said album in completely random situations. Like today, I am sitting in a morning staff meeting...and somebody is talking about something...new year, new goals, blah blah blah...the only thing I hear is "We don't dive, we cannonball" over and over again...it was then that I realized that this Thao album is absolutely perfect.

How have I not written a single word about this album all year? I've listened to it constantly, and I STILL love it. Some how the idea of actually expressing my love for the record on this blog, got lost in my cluttered head. Trust me, if you spent any time at all in my head, you would see how easily that could happen.
Thao is a singer/songwriter originally from the Washington DC area who now calls San Fransisco home. Her 2008 album 'We Brave Bee Stings And All' is absolutely great. It's just the right amount of folky, and oh so catchy...and completely original sounding.
Here is one of my favorite tunes off of the record...enjoy.
