If all modern 'country' music sounded this good, the world would be a better place
Kathleen Edwards is country the way Lucinda Williams is country. Tough, smart, cool, and never predictable or boring.
I have been listening to the latest album from Canada's Edwards today, and I can't move on to anything else quite yet. It's just a grand record. Her 2005 release 'Failer' was one of my favorites from that year, and this year's 'Asking For Flowers' is looking like one of the best albums so far in 2008. 'I Make The Dough, You Get The Glory' is one of the finest country songs I have heard in a long tme. It's brutally honest, intelligent, and sincere. Everything a classic country song should be...and she even throws in getting drunk and Elvis for good measure.
