Coachella Artist O'the Day: 41 Days To Go

Busy, busy day... on the go non stop...just dropping by my blog for a second to push the Coachella coundtown one day closer to liftoff.

On my way way to see Two Cow Garage at my very favorite Columbus bar, the Rumba Cafe...which is where I saw Deer Tick when they were in town. So, seems like a good day for Deer Tick...awesome live band, looking forward to seeing them again in April.

I know it's been awhile since I have posted anything, but it's been awhile since anything interesting has found it's way to my ears. Deer Tick took care of that today with their forthcoming EP 'More Fuel To The Fire' and especially this track...

Born On Flag Day

Even though I personally just found out about Deer Tick this past winter, their impending summer release 'Born On Flag Day' has been one that I've been looking forward to for months. I literally knew nothing of the band, then saw them open up for ex Drive By Trucker Jason Isbell a while back and I was blown away. Went out the next day and picked up last year's 'Elephant.'

I dig John McCauley's scratchy, road tested voice and he writes the perfect songs to fit it. The record drops on June 23.

Rock N Roll

My self imposed show hiatus took another hit last night. Boredom and beautiful weather teamed up to coax me out of hiding for the Jason Isbell show last night. And I am so glad I went. There is just something so good for the soul about packing too many people into a really tiny club and listening to somebody play their heart out for 90 minutes. Good old fashioned, visceral rock n roll bliss.

I am not very adept at writing reviews, so I will spare you the details...but it was an awesome night.Deer Tick, a band that I had heard of but never heard, opened the show and the blew me away. I bought a cheap point and shoot digital camera that I am taking to Coachella and I took it out for a test run last night, but alas...without a battery it didn't do me much good! So in lieu of photos, I will post a couple of songs...one is my favorite Isbell penned Drive By Truckers song, and the other is a Deer Tick tune off of their 2007 album 'War Elephant.'
